Changes All Around
It has been a while since I last posted. It has been a busy time! Mom has decided to move into a retirement home and this has happened. She has been there for over two weeks and seems to have settled in. The staff have all been very supportive and are very friendly. It was a difficult decision and has left us with a lot to do. We sold the family car - both my parents no longer had a license to drive so the car just sat in their driveway. It is one of many changes that have come about because of dad's diagnosis.
It al is happening too fast. Dad moved on December 9. Mom moved April 27. The past two weeks were spent preparing for a house sale where we got rid of a number of items from my parents home. The Restore Remove program came in on Thursday and cleaned up what remained in the home. This program may have saved my sanity. Every time I drove by my parent's home I would think of what lay ahead. There was so much to do. Wednesday we meet with the real estate agent and the house will go on the market.
Dad is not been made aware that any of this was going on. We are not sure how he will react. He has truly gone downhill since he was placed. Today we went to visit and Dad was not there. He had another fall this morning and was to see the doctor. He was very lethargic and his eyes seemed lost. They were cloudy and glazed over, His lower lip was hanging low and his tongue was out. He was drooling. The doctor suggested a battery of test that would best be conducted at the hospital. Mom was visibly shaken as Dad had no interest in us. He was sleeping and very twitchy. He seemed to jump. At one point his eyes opened wide as if it had passed. He attempted to stand but we discouraged that. We decided to leave and as we were going out the door the ambulance arrived and unloaded the stretcher. We knew it was there for Dad - who knows where out journey will take us.
I know where our journey is going but all of a sudden we have seemed to have jumped ahead - it has been so fast.
